Superior, WI | July 22, 2025 – Cedar & Stone Nordic Sauna is proud to announce a major milestone in our journey: the acquisition of a new manufacturing lease at the building previously owned by Barko Hydraulics in Superior, Wisconsin. This new space will dramatically accelerate production capacity for modular outdoor saunas and allow us to significantly expand our build team, solidifying our roots in the North while meeting the rising demand for authentic sauna experiences across North America.

Why this move matters

For our customers: This expansion means shorter lead times while maintaining the highest standards of quality assurance, safety and environmental sustainability; and more handcrafted Cedar & Stone saunas making their way into backyards, forests, lakeshores, and hospitality destinations from coast to coast. If you’ve been eyeing one of our standard models, now is the perfect time to reserve your unit and bring sauna home sooner than ever before. Reserve yours.

For the community: We’re hiring. As we scale, we’re bringing skilled jobs to the Twin Ports region, investing in local talent, tradespeople, and craftspeople who believe in the value of working with their hands and creating something timeless. This new space gives us the opportunity to deepen our roots in the Northland, develop our apprenticeship program, and build meaningful partnerships that support the next generation of makers.

For the industry: This move signals a shift. Sauna is no longer a niche wellness trend. It’s becoming a mainstay of modern life. With this expansion, Cedar & Stone is stepping forward as a leading force in redefining how North Americans think about outdoor living, our health, and creating community. We believe sauna belongs in daily life, not just as a luxury, but as a lifestyle rooted in connection and well-being.

A word from our co-founder

“We are very excited to be scaling and modernizing our manufacturing business here in the Twin Ports. Over the last few years, we’ve developed a unique application of mass timber, which is a modern way of building solid wood buildings, and we’re really excited to see modern manufacturing using a traditional resource in what has been and continues to be a great seaport and manufacturing hub.

“We are very excited to be scaling and modernizing our manufacturing business here in the Twin Ports.

“Duluth has been an ideal place to find awesome people, and we’re thrilled to be extending that across the bay. This is a great trade town, and one of the things we’re most excited about is expanding our apprenticeship programs with an eye toward giving young people a thorough education in the trades while contributing to our manufacturing.

We’ve been looking for a space for years, and although we are of course sad to see Barko move to Michigan, the availability of a true industrial space with cranes and heavy power is a very exciting opportunity for us.”

Joel Vikre, Co-Founder and Chief of Design & Innovation

What’s next

The new manufacturing space will be operational by late summer, with hiring already underway. We’ll continue to craft every unit with care, by hand, and with the same commitment to quality and design that has defined Cedar & Stone from the start.
